Context

Humanitarian organizations operating in crisis settings face growing challenges in collecting, managing, and acting on information quickly and effectively. While AI presents opportunities to improve decision-making, coordination, and service delivery, many organizations lack clear pathways for identifying responsible and practical applications of these technologies. To address this, a multi-stakeholder initiative brought together representatives from NGOs, INGOs, UN agencies, government entities, academia, and donors to explore AI-enabled solutions for humanitarian response.

What MAJAZ Did

MAJAZ designed and facilitated a co-design workshop that transformed insights from previous stakeholder consultations into actionable innovation concepts. Using systems thinking, Problem Tree Analysis, and AI Pattern Matching, participants explored root causes of key humanitarian challenges and collaboratively developed AI-enabled solutions. Ethical AI principles were embedded throughout the process, with each concept assessed for risks related to privacy, accountability, inclusion, and transparency. The workshop culminated in the development of four solution roadmaps addressing community engagement, patient data management, humanitarian logistics, and stakeholder coordination.

Outcome

  1. Four AI-enabled humanitarian solution concepts with implementation roadmaps
  2. Practical applications of AI identified across technical, operational, and governance challenges
  3. Increased alignment between humanitarian, governmental, academic, and technical stakeholders
  4. Integration of ethical AI considerations into solution design and decision-making
  5. Actionable foundations for future prototyping, piloting, and scaling efforts
